Cardiac education is designed to support your recovery and long-term heart health. This education empowers you to take control of your health and prevent further complications, ensuring a smoother recovery and a healthier future.
At Healthy Living NT, our specialist cardiac nurses come together in a team with more than 80 years of combined experience in the field. Our team shares a deep personal connection to cardiovascular disease, which helps us empathise and relate to the people we serve. Our nurses are experts in the field, trusted to deliver community based cardiac education services throughout the Northern Territory.
Our role is not just about providing you with information, but also about collaborating with your cardiologist and GP to offer comprehensive support that is tailored specifically to you. We’re here to guide you through understanding your diagnosis, medication management, risk factors and the steps you need to take for a successful recovery.
Heart health doesn’t exist in isolation—it’s a family affair. That’s why we encourage clients to bring family members to our education sessions. When family members are involved, the knowledge and lifestyle changes are more likely to be embraced as a collective effort, fostering a supportive environment at home. Whether it’s preparing heart-healthy meals together or joining in on exercise routines, family involvement amplifies the impact of our work.
At its core, our role is about empowerment. By providing accessible education and compassionate support, we aim to inspire people to make informed decisions about their health. Even for people with a high genetic risk, small, positive lifestyle changes—like eating a balanced diet, staying active, tackling addictions and managing stress—can yield significant benefits.
Anyone with a heart condition can call and make an appointment. Both education sessions and Heart Healthy Program are free. We service the entire Northern Territory and can offer telehealth sessions for people unable to attend face-to-face.
